Not completing my first Objective until Round 3 felt like a very slow start, despite using the missions to cycle the Objective deck the ones I got were relative duffers. Still, killing the Star Destroyer allowed me to achieve my first Objective Card and get that marker moving down the track. The "Massacre at Mandalore" was thus something of a pyrrhic victory for the Rebels, now unable to push deeper into Imperial territory. A bombing run from the Y-Wings crippled the Star Destroyer, but the battle in both space and on the ground drew to a bloody end as the star-fighters and ground troops all wiped each other out, leaving the Mon Calamari cruiser all alone above the planet. The Rebels seized the initiative, Luke Skywalker leading a relatively small force to Mandalore to smash the Imperial garrison. Immigrant City, Asteroid Hollowing and a smattering of other +Money bonuses meant that by game's end Dan's cash production was +46, allowing him to lurch from VP to VP, while my slimmer, more efficient tableau was churning out the plants, animals and cities to keep pace.Īll told, Dan just pipped me with 65 points to my 63, with Dad following close into third with 60, and finally Vineet bringing up the rear with 54. Vineet and Dan meanwhile fell into that typical TM-newbie trap of focusing too much on the cards and too little on the board, but while Dan had the cash reserves to simply power through any bad investments, some of Vineet's projects were underutilised and thus offered poor returns.Īs we got into the final generations it still felt fairly close, I thought it would be between myself and Dan for first place. Dad played a very slim game, mainly due to getting stuffed with less-than-ideal cards each round, but he played the board aggressively from the get-go and was the first to grab both the Mayor and Forester milestones. Meat Industry in my opening hand was a slightly sinister boost for my game, apparently I was saving these animals and also eating them? Either way I tried to steer through plant and animal giving cards as best I could. Coupled with the Allied Bank prelude Dan's credit income was +10 before the game had even started, giving him a very powerful early game advantage. Novices Vineet and Dan joined Dad and I, only the briefest of rules refreshers was needed for everyone and to Vineet and Dan's credit, only minimal advice was sought as to which corporations and starting cards to keep.ĭad opted for Thorgate, myself for animal-collecting Arklight, Vineet for UNMI and Dan for the slightly bizarre Mons Insurance. It was weird.Of course, to celebrate our roughly-half-a-Martian-year-iversary it had to be Terraforming Mars. I was busily annexing all of that when I suddenly got this result. Towards the end of the game two hostile species were wiped out by the Federation I was vassal of and I found an unclaimed sector I somehow hadn't been able to explore before to the 'south'. My two fleets of Cruisers and Corsairs (UV lasers, Disruptors) never saw combat once. Somehow I still managed to carve out most of the right cheek of the galaxy as mine.Īt one stage someone destroyed one of my mining stations but I just rebuilt it again. I was ahead or equal to of almost all my competitors in tech and had focused on Harmony, Prosperity and Discovery.

I'd lagged behind nearly all the other AI empires in the galaxy in not realising until it was too late which techs and resources to prioritise to unlock Battleships, so everyone but the most primitive was 'Overwhelming' in military terms in comparison, but I was a vassal of the most militarily powerful Empire so supposedly under their protection: must have been a Hobbits and Dunedain situation though cause I can't say I noticed any of it one way or the other.Įarly game two AI Empires closed their borders to me so I had no Hyperlane route to explore past a certain point, so just concentrated on claiming as much I could and mining it. Playing an Avian race with traits 'Intelligent', 'Quick Learners', 'Fleeting' and 'Slow Breeders': species ethics 'Militaristic' and 'Fanatic Spiritualist'.
